Your EcoLeap registered energy advisor will evaluate your home to determine where and how energy is being used in your home and where and how energy is escaping from your home. A detailed process is followed to collect energy information. You will receive this information in a Homeowner Information Report.
Generally speaking, there are four steps in the rebate process:

Once the upgrades are complete your EcoLeap registered energy advisor will perform a follow-up energy assessment. Upgrades will be assessed and another airtightness test will be performed. The actual upgrades will be modelled and an updated Homeowner Information Report will be provided. Your authorization paperwork will be submitted for qualifying home efficiency incentives and rebates.
The first energy assessment takes between 2 to 3 hours. The post-renovation upgrade energy assessment takes between 1 and 2 hours.
The cost for the pre and post-energy assessments is $600 +HST. If two or more eligible upgrades are completed the homeowner will receive a rebate of $550 for the cost of the energy assessments. Payments can be made through an Interac Email Tranfser, Visa, MasterCard or cash. All payments must be made prior to the departure of your energy advisor.
A homeowner must be present during the assessments to complete authorization paperwork and provide property tax and utility account numbers.
All pets must be kept away from the blower door during the airtightness test. Your energy advisor will have to go in and out of your home many times during the assessment. If you have a pet that likes to “escape”, it is advisable to leash, crate or confine your pet in a room with a gate. Because all interior doors must be open during portions of the assessment, your pet cannot be confined in a room with a closed door.
During the blower door airtightness test your dishwasher must not be running. All home mechanical systems and some appliances cannot be running. Other elements of your home will be prepared to simulate “winter” conditions.
E.g. all windows and doors closed and latched.
Expect one to two weeks to receive the results of your home energy evaluation. You will receive your reports by email unless other arrangements are made.
